How a Community Came to the Rescue at Glenn Buratti’s Birthday
I thought I’d share a heart warming birthday story this week that comes from the other side of the pond, St Cloud in Florida to be precise. A disaster for a young boy that turned into a triumph.
Glenn Buratti who suffers from mild autism and epilepsy was looking forward to his 6th birthday party. His mum had sent invitations to his whole class. What happened next would be upsetting for anyone.
Unbelievably not a single child showed up, leaving poor Glenn feeling upset and his mother was heartbroken. Glenn’s mother Ashlee told the local news “Seeing the look on his face killed me inside”.
She then made the following post onto Facebook:
Rant..I know this might be something silly to rant about, but my heart is breaking for my son. We invited his whole class (16 kids) over for his 6th birthday party today. Not one kid came. I feel so bad for my son. He keeps asking “when will my friends get here?” Poor kid. I feel so bad for him.
What happened next was amazing!
15 Children from the local area came around with their parents. But that wasn’t all.
The local emergency services including the police from the local Sheriffs office and local firefighters came around to add some excitement to Glenn’s special day. They let him sit in the fire engine and on the police bike and made him feel extra special.
And they also brought presents with them!!
Sometimes social media answers a call for help in style.
Happy Birthday Glenn from everyone at BoxedUpParty!!
